A Friendly Game of Poker — Jake Austen of Roctober is the editor of this Chicago Review Press published anthology on neighborhood poker games.

The Baffler — A batch of Hyde Park PhDs put this journal together, smacking The Man across his globular rump on a semiregular basis. (Site is no longer up as of 11/25/07)

Boob Jubilee — An anthology of past Baffler writings published by W.W. Norton and Co. I have an article in there, somewhere. Yes, it does sound like an erotic dessert, doesn't it?

Book Happy — The editrix of this zine is Donna Kossy, late of Kooks zine, author of Kooks and Strange Creations (both available from Feral House), and a friend. Book Happy covers the strangest books ever to cross a printing press. For a taste, visit the online book collectors' club Book Hell.

Chicago Journal — Local newspaper for which I write. Links to articles of mine that are reprinted on the site may be found on my Samples page.

Chicago Reader — Another local newspaper with a long reach. Free all over the amusement park known as "Chicagoland."

Cop Porn — The Dan Kelly motherlode, I published this mess back in 1997 as my death rattle in the zine world. Essays on dog-eating, cannibalism, sex-crazed nuns, suicide, graverobbing, black metal murder, and similar scatological crap that fascinated me in my twenties. Contact me if you want to buy a copy.

Feral House — Reading Apocalypse Culture was certainly a flashpoint for me. That's why I was happy to contribute to Apocalypse Culture II when editor Adam Parfrey asked. I wanted to put a fondue fork in each eye by the time I was done with the article, strangely enough.

Gapers Block — Chicago link clearinghouse I occasionally contribute to.

Hogan's Alley — An annual journal devoted to exploring the nooks and crannies of comic history. I wrote up a piece about martial arts course ads in comics of the 50s, 60s, and 70s. I might do more for them in the future.

The Imp — Publisher Dan Raeburn is a friend and one of the few talented writers I know—personally or otherwise. A razor-sharp thinker and comics criticism adept, Dan's assessments of Dan Clowes, Jack T. Chick, and Chris Ware leave me feeling much like a boil-assed baboon lazing in the sun, picking nits from my fur and chewing on them. I make an appearance in issue number 3. Dan doesn't have a Web site.

In These Times — Lefty magazine for which I've done a single article-length book review.

Loompanics Unlimited — Back when they were still in business, I wrote two articles for their catalog, which later appeared in an anthology called Loompanics Unlimited Conquers the Universe. Check eBay if you're some sort of weird Dan Kelly completist. I'm sure there are dozens of cut-out copies for sale.

memepool.com — An ongoing list of the Web's strangest, funniest, and most intriguing sites. I don't really submit anything to them anymore. Doesn't look like many of the other contributors do either. Sad, really. Oh well, go check out Metafilter or boingboing instead.

New City — Local free weekly paper here in Chicago. I used to write for them until developed a perverted desire to get paid for my work.

The Ragtime Ephemeralist — Nepotism reigns, but in this case it's a good thing. My brother-in-law Chris publishes this biannual journal of articles on ragtime music, following the tweezers approach to research. I'm in the third issue.
